Hiking in the Dolomites

There are many options for your hiking holidays in Val Gardena: the trails around Ortisei and surroundings are exemplary marked and signposted and it’s easy to orientate yourself. Moreover, along your hiking, you encounter picturesque farmed alps and mountain huts, which offer tasty traditional speciality.

Below some hints for our hiking friends:

Annatal:
To begin and to warm up we suggest a short but pleasant walk starting from St. Ulrich. From the lower terminus of the Seceda funicular, after the wooden bridge, follow the stream about approx. 30 min. The path is easy rising but still suitable for young and old. At the head of the valley there is the snack-bar Annatal, where you can expect traditional delicacy and a fresh drink.

Ortisei circular trail:
Follow the Luis Trenker path from Ortisei parish church until Coi. Upon arriving at a small supermarket take a right and follow the asphalt road to Mulin d’Odum house. Walk to the other side of the valley by crossing over the stream and follow the road taking you outside the valley – passing by the Minert Farm and the Mar Dolomit swimming pool, until you reach the valley station of the Alpe di Siusi cable car. Cross the footbridge on the right to return to your starting point.

To the mountain chapel of San Giacomo:
Starting at the church in Ortisei stay with the signposted trail to San Giacomo until the trail Via del Dialogo branches off to the left. Follow the switchbacks and continue the hike on the forest road, leading uphill; you’ll eventually turn left towards the chapel of San Giacomo (St. Jakob) at 1,566 m, walking time from Ortisei is about 1 hour. Descend following the same trail, keep right on the trail to Annatal, through Langental Valley. Trail No. 9 takes you back to the starting point.
